RESTORE Open Day: how training can help tourism businesses combat overtourism
How can tourism micro and small enterprises respond to overtourism while creating positive value for destinations, communities and the environment?
On 23 September 2026, Biosphere Portugal and Post-Innovation for Sustainable Development (PI4SD) will host the RESTORE Open Day, an online event that will explore this question by presenting practical training resources developed within the RESTORE project for tourism micro and small enterprises and for the professionals who train and support them.
The event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in mainland Portugal (Lisbon time) and from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Greece (Athens time). The session will be held online via Zoom and in English. Participation is free of charge, with prior registration required via the following link: RESTORE Open Day Registration.
The Open Day is aimed particularly at professionals and managers of tourism micro and small enterprises, Human Resources Professionals and Adult Trainers, consultants and business coaches. It is also relevant to training providers, vocational and higher education institutions, business associations, non-governmental organisations, public bodies and representatives of other European projects.
From overtourism to Net Positive and regenerative tourism
The session will begin with a brief introduction to the challenge of overtourism and how RESTORE seeks to address it.
PI4SD will then present the RESTORE Train the Trainers MOOC, a four-module learning pathway for Human Resources Professionals and Adult Trainers who support tourism micro and small enterprises.
Biosphere Portugal will present the Training Course for Entrepreneurs and Professionals of Micro and Small Enterprises in the Tourism Sector, also organised into four modules and designed to help tourism businesses explore Net Positive and regenerative business practices.
Participants will also see a demonstration of the RESTORE Online Learning Hub, including its structure, the available content and how to access the two learning pathways.
The session will conclude with an open question-and-answer session, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions directly to the teams involved in developing the training content and learning resources.
Free training after the Open Day
Following the event, both RESTORE learning pathways will be available free of charge in English, Portuguese and Greek through the RESTORE Online Learning Hub.
Participants who successfully complete a learning pathway will receive a Certificate of Successful Completion.
About RESTORE
RESTORE: Empowering Tourism SMEs to Become Regenerative Businesses for Combating Overtourism is a two-year Erasmus+ adult education project that empowers tourism entrepreneurs and professionals, especially those working in micro and small enterprises (MSEs), to combat overtourism by embracing regenerative business practices that go beyond sustainability and circularity and transform their businesses into regenerative organisations with a Net Positive effect on society and the environment. The project also equips Human Resources (HR) Professionals and Adult Trainers to facilitate this transition.
